Amarillo, Texas - May 22 - Sixteen teams are preparing for their trip to the
United States for the 2002 American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup
Competition, scheduled for June 28 through July 7.

Nearly 200 youth from sixteen countries-Austria, Australia, Belgium,
Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Italy, The
Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, South America, USA and
the United Kingdom-are scheduled to arrive in Amarillo June 28.

Held every two years, the 2002 American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup
will feature eight days of educational seminars, specific discipline
clinics and leadership training exercises. The event culminates in
an atmosphere of friendly competition as teams vie for titles in
showmanship at halter, western pleasure, western horsemanship, hunter
under saddle, hunt seat equitation, western riding, trail, reining,
cutting and a versatility class.

Each country selects five competitors as well as up to five additional youth who attend either as alternates or for the educational aspects of the event. American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup 2002 will be the largest ever
with 16 countries competing.

AQHA Member and Youth Activities Committee Member Warner K. "Skip"
Parker of Carrollton, Texas, is credited with founding the Youth
World Cup. The event started in 1986 in Australia and since then has
been held in Fort Worth, Texas (1988); Canada (1990); Australia
(1992); Germany (1994); Flagstaff, Arizona (1996); Amarillo, Texas
(1998); and Italy (2000). AQHA has officially governed the event
since 1998 and is one of the main reasons why the event returns to
